“My philosophy is always to look at the long-term opportunity. Take a business with potential, put in a management team you trust and give them a stake in its future.”

Bhanu Choudhrie

Bhanu Choudhrie founded C&C Alpha Group in 2002, amalgamating two businesses, C&C Sons and Alpha Group, to create a holding company for a group of private investors with more than three decades of venture capital funding experience.

Bhanu graduated from Boston University with a degree in international marketing and business and focused initially on healthcare and real estate, but C&C Alpha Group now operates in six distinct business sectors: Aviation; Healthcare; Hospitality; Real Estate; Utilities; Banking and Technology. Bhanu is a Director of Customers Bancorp, a former director of Atlantic Coast Financial Corporation in the United States and a Co-Founder of Megalith Capital Management in the United States.

He provides investment strategies for young businesses, incubating them, mapping their growth trajectories and helping them to maximise their potential. In 2008, Bhanu was named ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ at the ‘Asian Voice Political and Public Life Awards’ in the UK.

Bhanu has also completed Harvard Business School's prestigious Owners President Management Program and works extensively in emerging markets, sourcing and advising on deals.

Bhanu shares his family's passion for philanthropy and is a director of the charity, Path to Success, and the Choudhrie Family Foundation. Away from business, he is an accomplished rider and once represented India, the country of his birth, at polo.

Bhanu has been immersed in business ever since the age of 12 when his father, who has an extensive vintage car collection, asked him to work in his garage for a month every summer. During the school holidays he would go to his father's offices to learn all about the world of work.

After graduating from Boston University, he interned at JP Morgan but soon moved to London and has always operated globally. One of his earliest investments was in Air Deccan, a low-cost airline in India and grew to be the country’s second biggest airline within four years. Another early investment, when Bhanu was fresh out of college was in the website ebookers.com, which floated on the stock exchange in both London and New York and was subsequently sold to the Cedant Corporation.

Bhanu moved into the US banking sector in the wake of the 2008 financial crash, joining the failing New Century Bank, (now called Customers Bancorp NYSE:CUBI), a small regional outfit in the US, focused on community banking. He has always been an innovator in financial services; Customers Bank (a subsidiary of Customers Bancorp), where he is a director, has grown BankMobile, into an industry success story, capturing more than 25% of the student market within 18 months by dispensing with fees and branches. He is also a former director of Atlantic Coast Financial Corporation (NASDAQ:ACFC).
